Oreo Crumble isopods are a striking Porcellionides pruinosus morph known for their high-contrast black, gray, and creamy white patterning. They are hardy, fast breeding, and extremely active, making them an excellent choice for beginners and bioactive enclosures alike.
Care Snapshot:
- Difficulty: Beginner
- Temperature: 70–80°F (21–27°C)
- Humidity: Moderate to high with good airflow
- Enclosure: Well-ventilated enclosure with leaf litter, cork bark, and a defined moisture gradient
- Bioactive Role: Excellent clean-up crew; highly efficient decomposers
Feeding:
Provide a varied diet including quality isopod food, fish or shrimp pellets, vegetables such as squash, carrot, zucchini, and sweet potato, along with plenty of decaying hardwood leaves and rotting wood. Supplemental protein can help support rapid colony growth. Always provide a calcium source such as cuttlebone or cleaned and baked eggshell.
Habitat Notes:
Oreo Crumble isopods thrive in setups with moderate humidity, strong ventilation, and plenty of organic matter. Maintain a moist side with sphagnum moss while allowing another area to remain slightly drier. They enjoy abundant leaf litter and bark hides and are often visible exploring the enclosure, especially at feeding time.
Breeding:
Oreo Crumble isopods reproduce rapidly and establish colonies quickly under stable conditions. Warm temperatures, regular feeding, and consistent moisture will encourage continuous breeding. Their durability and fast reproduction make them ideal for beginner keepers, display colonies, and bioactive terrariums.
